Knowledge Units (KU)- Knowledge units consist of approximately 60 minutes of self-paced course content delivered online. The content can be browsed at any time and can be browsed repeatedly. Knowledge units are developed by expert instructors, but there is no direct, instructor interaction available during the course.
- All Virginia Tech alumni are entitled to one free knowledge unit per year.

Mini Courses (MC)- Mini courses consist of approximately X minutes of self-paced course content delivered online. The content can be browsed at any time and can be browsed repeatedly. Mini courses are developed by expert instructors, and there is limited direct, instructor interaction available during the course.

Groups/Subscriptions (GR)- Subscriptions are groups of knowledge units bundled together. All subscription content is self-paced and delivered online. The content can be browsed at any time and can be browsed repeatedly for a finite period of time. Subscriptions are developed by expert instructors, but there is no direct, instructor interaction available during the course.
